The Big Task Game Plan - Ink Friendly
The at-home printer friendly version…
…of the printable quest for getting that big project you’ve been procrastinating out of your head and over the finish line.
I created this for brains like mine that are very good at coming up with ideas and making plans, but considerably less enthusiastic about actually following through.
The game is simple: you break your big project (your main quest) into tiny mini quests that are easy and rewarding to tick off, while choosing your power-ups and levelling up towards your final boss fight.
Can you tell I like video games?
Download the game (for free) if you’re someone who:
gets overwhelmed by big tasks
srocrastinates the big tasks because you don’t know where to start
abandons projects because it gets too much
You will love it if you:
work well in short, specific sprints
are easily distracted by side quests
get excited by crossing things off
like structure but hate scheduling or time blocking
🎮 How the game works
Level 1: break it down
Define your quest, decide on your reward and brain-dump all the tiny jobs hiding inside the Big Task. Then sort them into Novice, Apprentice and Master mini quests depending on how long they'll take.
Level 2: make the game plan
Plan your first three work sessions, choose a realistic timer and pick your power-ups, whether that's music, body doubling, a change of scenery, snacks or turning it into a race.
Level 3: tackle the mini quests
Do the thing! Set your timer and GO. Tick the mini quests off and check in after each session to notice what worked (and what absolutely did not), and earn your completion stars.
Level 4: bonus sessions
Still not finished? That's ok, your iPhone probably pinged and you got caught doom scrolling half way through one of the sessions. It happens to us all. But you haven't failed the quest. There are three extra sessions ready when you need them.
Level 5. the Boss Fight
Gather up the annoying loose ends you've been avoiding, choose your final power-up and get the quest over the finish line.
And because no good game is complete without a bunch of side quests...
The Side Quest Parking Lot gives all those shiny new ideas somewhere safe to live, so that you don't have to abandon your main quest the second your brain announces that now would actually be an excellent time to reorganise your entire wardrobe. IYKYK…
What's included?
Your download includes 6 printable A4 pages:
The Big Task Game Plan + task breakdown
3-session game planner
Session check-ins and completion tracker
3 optional bonus-session planners
Final Boss Fight planner
Side Quest Parking Lot
It's designed to be printed and filled in by hand, with plenty of space for scribbling, doodling, crossing things out and generally making a mess of it.
Use the whole workbook for a big project, or print individual pages again whenever you need them.
A tiny disclaimer…
As much as I would like it to be this is not a magic cure for procrastination, an ADHD treatment or a system that will suddenly transform you into someone who completes tasks three days early. It's simply a fun tool to make starting your big projects feel a bit less daunting (and finishing it a whole lot more satisfying).
That’s all from me, now go choose your quest! ⭐
